| Premier Peter Beattie today announced another major step in the reform of Queensland Health with the appointment of three eminent doctors to Clinical CEO positions. "I am delighted to announce the successful applicants for the Clinical CEO positions at - Dr Thomas Ward (Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital), Dr David Theile AO (Princess Alexandra Hospital) and Dr William Beresford (Rockhampton Hospital). "Interviews for the Clinical CEO position at Cairns Hospital will be conducted in the next few weeks. "The three Clinical CEO's we have appointed jointly with the University of Queensland are outstanding, drawn from an extensive national and international recruitment process that attracted 30 applications. "The selection panel included Uschi Schreiber, Director General of Health; Dr Bill Glasson, a past President of the AMAQ and Professor Peter Brooks, Executive Dean, Faculty of Health Services, University of Queensland." "These CEO positions are about giving clinicians a greater say in decision-making to help find solutions for our health system, in line with a recommendation from the Forster Review," Mr Beattie said. "The commitment also involved the establishment of clinical advisory groups and networks of doctors and medical staff for hospital emergence departments, which are already operating. "The appointment of Clinical CEOs completes the delivery of a commitment this government made to the people of Queensland, and I am confident this will go a long way to ensuring Queenslanders get the best possible health care," he said. Health Minister Stephen Robertson said the CEOs would also fill a broader leadership role for clinical coordination in the surrounding districts of their hospitals. "They will report to the Area Health Service Manager and provide advice on a broad range of clinical service issues at their hospital and the wider area as well as emergent service delivery requirements, cross-district service planning and staffing," Mr Robertson said.
