Chair of the National Health and Hospitals Reform Commmission (NHHRC), Dr Christine Bennett, said today that submissions to the Commission are now available on the NHHRC website.

Dr Bennett said more than 500 submissions had been received from governments, organisations, professional associations and individuals.

From today, 218 submissions can be viewed on the Commission's website at
www.nhhrc.org.au

More submissions will be posted on the website soon.

Dr Bennett said the Commission has been encouraged by the high level of interest in the health system and health reform from many individuals and organisations.

"The submissions contain a diverse range of ideas, experiences and policy proposals for consideration by the Commission," Dr Bennett said.

"In addition to our face-to-face consultation process the submissions have exposed the Commission to a significant cross-section of the Australian community - from the professions to consumer groups to ordinary Australians concerned about their health and the health of their children and families.

"The Commission is now focusing on producing its interim report," Dr Bennett said.

The NHHRC's interim report will be presented to Health Minister Nicola Roxon in December.
