The town of Karoonda is situated 150 km southeast of Adelaide on the Murray Bridge to Loxton Rd.
The population of Karoonda is approximately 350 persons and the district is approximately 1400 persons. The town supports the agricultural and zircon mining industries. Karoonda Area School provides educational opportunities from pre school to year 12
Karoonda Hospital is part of Mallee Health Service, a Multi Purpose Service created in 2002 consisting of Karoonda, Lameroo and Pinnaroo Hospitals and the newly created, Mallee Community Health Services.
Karoonda Hospital and Karoonda Homes for the Aged is a 30 bed complex that works with community to meet their health and aged care needs. Karoonda has one resident General Practitioner who is integral to the multidisciplinary health team.

Responsibilities are as per job description and include the following:
- Work as part of the nursing team to assess, plan and deliver nursing care to acute patients, aged care residents and community attending for emergency and outpatient treatment.
- Work collaboratively with the multi disciplinary team to assist members of the community to take responsibility for their health care needs using a primary health approach.
- Build community capacity to help reduce the burden of chronic disease and its impact on individuals, families and community.

- Registered with the Nurses Board of South Australia (NBSA).
- Employment is subject to an initial satisfactory police check in accordance with organisational policy.
- A motor car driver’s licence is important together with the ability and willingness to drive a motor car
- Salary and conditions as per SA Nurses Award-Public and Nurses EB 2008.
- Salary is based on the hours worked.
- Uniforms supplied.
- Nursing staff work across three shifts (morning, afternoon and night) with the number of shifts per fortnight negotiable to enable a work life balance.
