Ms Mary Foley (NSW)

  

Mary Foley has pursued a unique career in Australian health care working successfully at senior levels in the corporate world, Federal and State governments and the not-for-profit sector.

 

Mary has recently taken up the role of National Health Practice Leader for PricewaterhouseCoopers. Prior to this appointment, Mary was foundation Chief Executive of St Vincents & Mater Health Sydney (2001-2008), where she successfully brought about the merger of some of Sydney’s leading public and private health care and medical research institutions into an integrated, highly effective group which provides public teaching hospital, private hospital, residential aged care, sub acute, community and medical research services.

 

From 1991 to 2000, Mary held senior corporate positions in developing private health care with Mayne Nickless Limited. As General Manager Diagnostic Services and Director of Acquisitions, Mary established Mayne’s diagnostics division which is now the Symbion company. Mary was awarded Business Woman of the Year for NSW in 1998 for her achievements at Mayne Nickless. In 2003, Mary was awarded the Centenary Medal by the Federal Government for service to Australian society in business leadership.

 

Prior to her corporate career, Mary was a senior public servant, commencing with the Federal Public Service in Canberra and subsequently with the NSW Public Service attaining the position of deputy head of the NSW Department of Health and department head status as the Executive Director of the Office of Health Policy. Mary was a member of the Australian Health Ministers Advisory Council from 1989 to 1991 and worked extensively in the area of Commonwealth/State financial relationships.

 

Mary is currently Deputy Chancellor of the University of Western Sydney and chairs the University’s Strategy and Resources Committee. Mary has also served as a Director of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute and is a member of the Board of Governors of the University of Notre Dame Australia.
