Leading Local Health Reform [Special Summary Event]

Organisation: AHHA - ODPN Workshop Series
Venue:
Canberra, ACT
Start Date: Friday, 25 June 2010
End Date: Friday, 25 June 2010

The publication of A National Health and Hospitals Network for Australia’s Future and the outcomes of the COAG meeting in April 2010 have set the scene for the AHHA-ODPN Workshops. While more clarity is expected around primary healthcare, preventive health and a range of other specific issues, we are in an ideal position to begin understanding what the reforms mean from national, state and local perspectives.

The Federal Government's hospital network proposals have already provoked extensive political debate. There are underlying imperatives for the whole health system concerning demographic trends, cost pressures, public expectations, the requirement to meet health needs more effectively and to comply with rising standards for patient safety and service quality. This is all in the context of aiming for greater efficiency which will have to be pursued in practical terms by those responsible for managing our healthcare sector and services.

The AHHA-ODPN Workshop will explore these practical domains of implementing essential change.

The program design has three key features to:
• Enable participants to identify what they regard as the most significant issues;
• Introduce models for leading and managing large-scale strategic change initiatives; and
• Help participants to reflect on the management skills and capabilities needed to thrive in the ever more demanding environment.

The Workshop's ultimate objective is to help participants think about and develop implementation ‘architecture’ which can shape local approaches while keeping in step with still emerging national priorities and pace for change.
